Founder: Carlton Payne Jr.
Carlton Payne Jr. is an extremely talented trumpeter, whose journey in the realm of professional music commenced at the young age of 16. Displaying his undeniable talent for the trumpet, Carlton's passion for jazz and the idea of the Big Band sound, sparked a lifelong commitment to the art form. In 2008, he ventured into the realm of band leadership, founding the illustrious Carl Payne Big Band. With an unyielding dedication to preserving the authenticity of the sounds of swing while intertwining contemporary variations, Carlton's musical skill and leadership have solidified his place as in South Carolina's modern jazz. His unwavering commitment to musical excellence continues to inspire both seasoned and aspiring young musicians.
Meet The Band
Delivering an authentic, polished jazz sound, the Carl Payne Big Band specializes in music from the Big Band Swing Era, with a bit of contemporary Rhythm and Blues. Together, these sounds create a unique and memorable musical experience for listeners at each event. The band members include a culmination of band directors, teachers, engineers, lawyers, college and high school students, along with a television producer and member of law enforcement. With a steadfast commitment to both preserving the rich legacy of Big Band Swing and nurturing the musical aspirations of the younger generation, the Carl Payne Big Band aims to both entertain and enlighten audiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for this timeless genre.
